Gemma D.
Business Analyst - Financial Services
I started this journey transitioning from a pharmacist who just relocated to a new country into a Business analyst.
I started my journey with a training platform like ITyDATA where I got exposed to business analysis and what it was all about. The different stages of a project lifecycle and the waterfall methodology.
After I was done with my project on the platform, I started interviewing but I noticed that a knowledge of scrum framework and agile methodologies were a requirement in the jobs I had applied for hence I decided to join ITyDATA.
In all sincerity, within 2 weeks of joining ITyDATA, I learned a lot about the scrum framework and further improved my knowledge of the BA’s role in an agile environment. This helped greatly in my interviews as most roles wanted BA’s that could perform dual roles for eg BA/scrum master or BA/ product owner.
Eventually after being in the job market for 2 months and receiving coaching from E, I landed my first role as a Manager Business Analysis in one of the big players in card payments globally with a starting salary 4 times what I currently earn including some sweet benefits that come with the role 😁😁
I cannot leave out the grace of God in my success as I prayed to God and believed him for this. I owe my success majorly to God’s grace honestly.
I would want to advise everyone else on this platform looking for a job to keep persisting, do not give up and apply aggressively! On average I was applying to 60 jobs weekly, if you multiply that by 8 weeks that would be close to 500 jobs in 2 months and this is besides the jobs I had been applying to during the earlier stages of job hunting. I applied to both jobs I qualified for and felt I didn’t qualify for lol
Out of these jobs, I had 5 interviews and these days, I get a recruiter email or message on LinkedIn daily.
The market is tough and the job hunt can be an emotionally/mentally draining one but as long as you stand firm you will land yours
Remember your success story is yours alone, you own that yourself., do not think you need to learn or know more before you get out there trust me some of these people that will be interviewing you are even still figuring it out.
